GDA Approves ₹100 Crore for 100m Cranes Post-Indirapuram Fire

GHAZIABAD: The recent fire at Gaur Green Avenue has prompted urgent reassessments among residents of high-rise gated communities and local authorities throughout NCR. In response, the Ghaziabad Development Authority approved a budget of ₹100 crore to purchase two hydraulic platforms, each capable of reaching heights of up to 102 metres—approximately 35 floors—significantly surpassing the current platform’s 42-metre limit, which equates to 14 storeys.

“We have opted to skip the lengthy approval process from the board and move forward with the immediate procurement of the two platforms,” commented an official from the Authority.

Previously, a hydraulic platform that reached only 42 metres was acquired in 2017 for ₹4 crore. However, the existing firefighting capabilities have failed to keep pace with the burgeoning number of high-rise structures in the city.

Currently, Ghaziabad boasts over 400 high-rise apartments and buildings, particularly in areas like Indirapuram, Crossings Republik, Raj Nagar Extension, and Sidharth Vihar. The number is expected to grow exponentially, especially with the recent UP Building By-laws 2025 that have lifted height restrictions on buildings, promoting vertical development based on permissible Floor Area Ratio (FAR).

In the updated regulations, buildings on plots less than 300 square metres are allowed to have three floors with stilts up to a height of 15 metres. For larger plots, 300 square metres and above, up to four storeys with stilts reaching 17.5 metres are permitted.

Notably, height restrictions for group housing, shops, commercial spaces, malls, hotels, and cinemas have also been removed.

According to the definition, a multi-storeyed or high-rise building is one that exceeds four storeys or 15 metres in height without stilts, and 17.5 metres with stilts.
