FIR Filed Against Builder for Open Waterlogged Pit in Greater Noida

NOIDA: An FIR has been filed against a builder and his project manager in Greater Noida’s Rabupura district for allegedly creating a hazardous situation by leaving a large pit filled with contaminated water near a public road, which endangers public health and safety, officials reported on Friday.

The FIR was registered after a sub-inspector patrolling Sector 22D of Star City on January 28 discovered a “very large and wide pit” that had been excavated close to the road leading to Kherlibhav village.

According to the FIR, the pit was dug using heavy machinery and had remained filled with stagnant water for several months.

“Due to this prolonged stagnation, the water has become severely polluted and muddy, with rainwater bringing in garbage,” the FIR stated, emphasizing that the situation is contributing to air pollution.

Additionally, the FIR highlighted the absence of safety measures like barricades or warning signs.

“Leaving such a large, open, waterlogged pit adjacent to a public roadway for an extended period poses a threat to human life and constitutes a public nuisance,” the document read.

Local farmers have also reported that the foul odor affects their breathing while they work in nearby fields.

The accused have been identified as builder G M Pushkar and project manager Pritam Singh, both of whom allegedly ignored repeated warnings about the situation.

An FIR has been lodged under various laws, including the Environment Protection Act and the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act. Rabupura SHO Shyam Babu Shukla mentioned that further investigations are ongoing.
