Extend Airport Metro to New Gurugram, RWAs urge minister

GURUGRAM: Representatives from RWAs in new sectors met Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh on Monday, advocating for the extension of the Delhi Airport Metro line to new Gurgaon, which would serve sectors along the Dwarka Expressway corridor.

They also requested bus services to connect Gurgaon with Yashobhoomi and Dwarka Sector 24 to improve last-mile connectivity for daily commuters. RWA representatives highlighted that despite rapid urbanization and increasing population density along the Dwarka Expressway, transport options remain limited. Improved connectivity, they argued, would alleviate reliance on private vehicles and enhance access to Delhi and the airport for residents.

“Currently, there is no public transportation in this region. By integrating metro services with the burgeoning residential and commercial areas along the Dwarka Expressway, we can establish a sustainable mobility highway for Delhi-NCR that aligns with both environmental and economic objectives,” stated Sunil Sareen, Vice President of Emaar Imperial Gardens RWA.

Dharam Veer Singh, RWA President of Mapsko Casabella, added, “With thousands of families now residing here, the lack of a metro link is a significant concern. Extending the Airport Metro will not only shorten travel times to Delhi but also alleviate congestion on our already overloaded roads.”

Singh assured the group that their concerns were valid and noted that he has already brought this issue to the central government’s attention. Earlier this month, he wrote to Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, asking him to prompt officials to expedite the plan for linking the Delhi Airport Metro with Dwarka Metro routes to Gurgaon along the Dwarka Expressway.

In his letter, Rao mentioned that the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed metro line connecting the Airport Metro to IFFCO Chowk via Gurgaon’s Sector 22–23 is under review. He indicated that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been instructed to finalize alignment details, with discussions ongoing to connect the Dwarka Expressway metro corridor to the current Airport Metro.

Rao stressed the importance of coordinating the new Gurgaon metro corridor with the Dwarka Expressway, given the growing number of residential sectors along this route. He suggested that this integration could offer residents near Vatika Chowk, SPR, and NPR a direct and efficient metro line to Delhi.
