GURUGRAM: On Monday, the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) demolished an illegal structure constructed by the previous Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) of Suncity Avenue, Sector 102.
Officials stated that the makeshift structure, situated at the rear of the society, was used for religious activities.
“The illegal construction came to our attention following formal complaints from residents. After verification, we issued a demolition order in accordance with the law,” explained Amit Madholia, the district town planner (enforcement).
The authorities pointed out a growing trend of RWAs engaging in unauthorized constructions within common areas of housing societies. “These structures, often erected for the personal convenience of RWA members, violate the Haryana Apartment Ownership Act and building bye-laws, as they are used for social or religious purposes,” officials noted. The issue will be addressed in an upcoming task force meeting with the deputy commissioner, and they have requested the district societies group to take stricter actions in these instances. A recommendation will also be made to appoint administrators for these RWAs to combat illegal encroachments.
“If RWAs continue to abuse their powers and facilitate illegal encroachments, we may have no choice but to assign administrators to oversee and regulate their activities. This will help ensure order and protect residents’ interests,” the official added.
Residents welcomed the DTCP’s actions and urged authorities to enforce strict compliance across all housing societies in the city.
