Delhi Mayor Urges Residents to Clear Property Tax Dues by March 31

New Delhi: Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh has encouraged property owners in the national capital to take advantage of the ‘Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana’ (SUNIYO) 2025-26, a property tax amnesty scheme that has been extended until March 31.

The mayor reported that over 1.8 lakh taxpayers have benefited from the initiative, generating Rs 1,089.97 crore in property tax as of March 1. Among this, Rs 211.44 crore came from more than 1.34 lakh residential properties, while Rs 878.52 crore was collected from 52,759 non-residential properties.

Describing it as a “golden opportunity,” he urged eligible taxpayers to settle their pending dues without incurring penalties or interest. “We encourage all property owners and occupants to fully utilize this golden opportunity under ‘SUNIYO’. The scheme will not be extended beyond March 31, 2026,” he stated.

Singh also mentioned that the late fee remains constant at 5%, the same rate that was applicable during February’s extended period.

Under ‘SUNIYO’, taxpayers can receive a complete waiver of past interest and penalties for dues prior to the 2020-21 financial year by paying the principal tax for the current year and the previous five financial years.

He noted that more than a lakh first-time taxpayers have participated in the scheme, contributing Rs 395.96 crore to the civic body.

In total, property tax collection for the current year has reached Rs 2,893.86 crore from over 12 lakh taxpayers, compared to Rs 1,937.44 crore from more than 10 lakh taxpayers during the same period last year, marking a revenue increase of 49.37% and a 21% rise in the taxpayer base, as reported in an official statement.
