NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta called on Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to expedite the “delayed” ‘Master Plan 2041’ to address the city’s growing demands.
During the launch of initiatives under the Gramodaya Abhiyan, Gupta emphasized that the new master plan should effectively tackle current developmental challenges while also benefiting future generations for the next century.
Gupta noted that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is currently working on the master plan, stating, “It should be ready soon. The Delhi government is prepared to approve anything that serves the interests of our citizens.”
Upon taking office in February, Gupta met with relevant officials to assess the draft of the Master Plan 2041, which has been in development for several years.
“I was taken aback by the draft,” Gupta remarked, adding that she instructed the officials to create a comprehensive master plan prioritizing the public’s needs.
In response, LG Saxena assured, “We are wholly committed to the master plan and are making efforts to implement it as quickly as possible.”
He highlighted the launch of the ‘Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan’ (DGA) in 2023, revealing that a previously unspent fund of Rs 960 crore from the Delhi government has been allocated to the DDA for project execution.
According to the LG, projects worth Rs 760 crore have been completed, including initiatives in 50 villages costing Rs 13 crore, which were inaugurated as part of the program.
The CM praised LG Saxena for his contributions to various projects under the Gramodaya Abhiyan, aimed at enhancing the development of rural areas within the national capital. “For true development, we must not only focus on urban areas and the Lutyens’ zone; rural development is equally crucial,” she added.
Together, LG and CM launched a total of 81 developmental projects, including the renovation of community halls, chaupals, roads, parks, and multipurpose centers, reinforcing rural infrastructure. Under the DGA, 854 initiatives worth Rs 760 crore have been approved.
The Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan aims to elevate the quality of life for villagers by identifying and addressing infrastructure and civic amenity gaps through targeted planning. The initiative also emphasizes community participation in decision-making processes.
