BENGALURU: Following the announcement of an auction for defaulters’ properties by the Greater Bengaluru Authority’s South city corporation, approximately 14 property owners in Bommanahalli hastily settled their long-standing dues, leading to a recovery of over ₹27 lakh.
The impending threat of public auction seems to be motivating defaulters to pay off their arrears prior to bidding on their properties. This comes on the heels of seven properties being successfully sold in a recent auction held by the East and North city corporations.
All five city corporations are moving forward with auctions targeting top tax defaulters as a final attempt to recover outstanding taxes. This marks the fourth auction this month, conducted in various locations, with GBA officials planning to continue auctioning properties belonging to defaulters.
According to KN Ramesh, Commissioner of the South city corporation, the civic body identified 50 properties—residential and non-residential—with total outstanding dues nearing ₹1.1 crore. Proclamation orders were issued for all listed properties, with the auction scheduled for Friday between 11 AM and 1:30 PM.
Before the auction began, 14 property owners took the initiative to clear their dues through challan and online payments. The commissioner instructed assistant revenue officers to officially remove these properties from the auction list.
However, the remaining 36 defaulters did not address their outstanding payments. Although the auction was officially called, no bidders stepped forward to submit deposits or place bids, leaving the auction unresolved. The commissioner indicated that preparations are in progress for a re-auction of the outstanding properties in the near future.
