Deadline to Remove Demolition Waste from Gurugram Roads & Lots

GURUGRAM: Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel instructed MCG officials on Wednesday to remove three lakh metric tonnes of construction and demolition (C&D) waste from roads and public spaces within a month.

The minister set a 15-day deadline to tackle the wandering cattle issue.

During a meeting with officials, he emphasized the need to enhance sanitation, keep public areas free of litter, boost cleaning resources, ensure timely removal of C&D waste, and implement debris fee collection when approving building plans.

He highlighted the urgency of addressing sewage-related problems in compliance with the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act.

Chief Principal Secretary to the CM, Rajesh Khullar, attended the meeting held at the PWD rest house.

Goel directed corporation officials to take prompt actions regarding stray cattle on roads and in public places, urging them to relocate these animals to cow shelters.

Goel stated, “Visible improvements should be evident within the next 15 days. A special WhatsApp helpline should be established for citizens to report stray and abandoned animals.”

“Incentives will be provided for those who offer information. We will also develop a reward system for sanitation workers who capture and deliver these animals to the appropriate agency,” he added.

The minister stressed the importance of a “timely and results-driven” approach from all officials to enhance Gurgaon’s reputation as a clean and organized city.

Officials noted that around 5,000 cows and 1,500 bulls are currently roaming the city. The municipal corporation’s Kamdhenu and Nandidham shelters can accommodate an additional 500 cows and 500 bulls.

Khullar instructed officials to set up cow shelters at two more locations to ensure animal safety as soon as possible.

Previously, Khullar directed MCG and GMDA officials to clear city roads of garbage, polythene, and debris, implementing a solid action plan to achieve this.

He reiterated that Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini is committed to improving Gurgaon.

On the stray animal issue, Khullar urged officials to “act swiftly and decisively.”

MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya indicated that work has been conducted at 153 potential waterlogging sites.

To alleviate issues during the rainy season, the corporation has established a special call center with 15 operators that mobilizes drainage teams as needed. They have also created a sewage monitoring cell that identified 40 problematic areas and are working on permanent solutions.

New Tender Announcement

The commissioner announced a new tender for door-to-door waste collection will be opened on August 18. Currently, 250 vehicles handle garbage collection at the doorsteps. There is an ongoing emphasis on implementing waste management systems for large waste generators and government department colonies.

Khullar was also informed about a functioning plant in Basai for C&D waste management, along with plans to establish another plant capable of processing 400 tonnes per day.
