NEW DELHI: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is teaming up with IIT Delhi to investigate the Triveni Apartments in Dwarka. The inspections are set to commence on Thursday to determine the cause of a recent “explosion-like” sound reported in the building, officials stated.
The DDA confirmed, “In a prompt effort to identify the cause of the incident, IIT Delhi has been contracted and the consultancy fee for the inspection has been settled. They are expected to arrive soon.”
Residents of the Dwarka Sector 16-B apartment complex voiced their concerns regarding the lack of immediate remedial actions after hearing the “explosion-like” sound on October 7.
A sudden lift of the lower basement slab in a non-tower area, attributed to accumulated gases and increased groundwater pressure, led to the blast-like noise and water seepage into the basement.
BG Mishra, president of the Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) of Triveni Apartments, noted that one of the basements remains inaccessible, causing significant inconvenience. “Basement 1, where the incident took place, has been shut off since then, leading to parking difficulties. These apartments aren’t very old, yet we face such structural issues. The DDA has not provided any solutions thus far,” Mishra expressed.
The DDA emphasized, “Should the IIT team’s recommendations necessitate further actions, the DDA will prioritize those immediately.” They added that they have also consulted leading structural and geo-technical experts for a thorough assessment.
