KOCHI: The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) has requested district collector G Priyanka to form a special team of revenue officials for the land pooling process related to Phase III of Infopark. This request follows the in-principle approval from the Department of Electronics and Information Technology for the project’s implementation across more than 300 acres through land pooling.

GCDA emphasizes the necessity to initiate the land pooling process in the upcoming weeks. “We require a team led by a senior official, including a deputy tahsildar, surveyors, and legal experts,” stated a GCDA representative. The district collector has been asked to assign personnel from the revenue department, allowing the authority to appoint a legal expert as well.

As the main implementing agency for the land pooling scheme, GCDA operates under the Kerala Town and Country Planning Act. The government has specifically tasked GCDA with conducting land pooling, and the authority plans to collaborate with Infopark to identify suitable land for the initiative. GCDA will also manage discussions with landowners to explain the land pooling model and obtain their voluntary consent, which includes provisions for landowners to receive a portion of their developed land back.

Furthermore, GCDA will conduct comprehensive surveys of the pooled land and supervise its consolidation for effective planning. They will be responsible for reconstituting the land into developed plots and redistributing them to the original landowners.

GCDA chairman K Chandran Pillai recently engaged in an extensive discussion with the collector regarding the procedures for the land pooling survey. “We will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the land pooling process with Infopark,” the GCDA official confirmed.
