MOHALI: The revenue department has suspended registry clerk Harpreet Singh for allegedly verifying land documents against a court order. This suspension was issued by the Finance Commissioner for Revenue and a notice was sent to the deputy commissioner of Mohali.
Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal confirmed this action and stated that a thorough investigation is currently in progress. An inquiry has also been launched against naib tehsildar Ritu Kapoor in relation to the same matter.
The situation arose after Amandeep Singh, a resident of Lakhnour village, filed a complaint asserting his status as the sole heir of his grandmother, Surjit Kaur, who passed away in October 2024. Surjit Kaur had previously initiated a civil case regarding plots allocated under the land pooling scheme in Sohana village. Despite a court order prohibiting the sale, the inheritance was reportedly registered under the names of Sarabjit Singh’s family members.
Later, Amanpreet Kaur sought court approval to sell her son Harshan Singh’s share. In May 2024, the court granted conditional approval for the sale within a six-month timeframe. However, the land was sold after nine months, allegedly involving official collusion and receiving an NOC from GMADA. Authorities are now investigating these irregularities.
