Chandigarh to Launch Land Stack Project in Sector 9, Khudda Jassu

CHANDIGARH: The Government of India (GoI) has designated Chandigarh and Tamil Nadu to conduct trials for its national Land Stack Project, which aims to establish a comprehensive digital platform for land and property records.

The Chandigarh administration has selected the affluent Sector 9 and Khudda Jassu village as pilot areas for this initiative. Both locations were thoroughly discussed and approved by the Centre in a meeting held on Friday, with minor adjustments suggested.

In its presentation, the administration highlighted integrated land data for the chosen areas, encompassing details like ownership, master plans, cadastral maps, registration records, property tax details, electricity and water connections, and information on encroachments or litigations. Officials elaborated on Chandigarh’s current cadastral mapping system, the website hosting these records, and GIS-based platforms that provide access to sectoral and village layouts.

The Record of Rights (RoR) section was emphasized for its importance in property ownership clarity. It was noted that the estate office maintains ownership records for sectors, while the village RoRs are managed by the revenue department. The role of the sub-registrar office (SRO) was explained, detailing its duty in registering property-related documents such as sale deeds, agreements, and wills.

The Land Stack Project is an initiative by the GoI designed to consolidate all land-related information into a single digital database, enhancing transparency and efficiency in land management. A central team is set to visit Chandigarh in December for a physical inspection of the pilot areas before the project’s implementation begins.
