Chandigarh to invest ₹10.25 crore in Manimajra services

CHANDIGARH: The engineering department of the municipal corporation has projected a budget of approximately Rs 10.25 crore for the provision of essential services on a land parcel in Manimajra, intended for auction as a housing society.

Of this total, Rs 4.96 crore has been allocated for public health services, Rs 3.32 crore for road construction, Rs 99 lakh for horticulture, and Rs 37 lakh for electrical services. Additionally, Rs 30 lakh has been earmarked for a common duct to accommodate networking lines for multiple utilities.

In the public health segment, the engineering department will implement services such as sewerage, stormwater drainage, water supply, tertiary treated (TT) water, public toilets, and tubewells. Given that these services are primarily underground, they will entail the highest costs. For road services, the focus will be on establishing connectivity to the housing complex.

As these initiatives involve various wings of the MC’s engineering department—public health, building and roads (B&R), horticulture, and electrical—each wing will draft and issue tenders appropriately. The total expenditure will be funded under the road/parking budget of the MC.

“Given that the area is currently desolate, the MC must exert significant effort to establish basic services before auctioning the five parcels of land, which total over 7 acres in Manimajra. A high-level meeting within the engineering department has already been conducted on this topic, and the authority prioritizes this initiative,” stated an official.

In the meantime, the deputy commissioner’s office has determined the collector rate for the Manimajra land to be approximately Rs 796 crore. The MC is in the process of drafting project terms and conditions, with a meeting held on Thursday involving officials from various departments.
