NEW DELHI: Residents of three jhuggi-jhopri (JJ) clusters near the prime minister’s residence have been instructed to vacate their homes following the Centre’s allocation of permanent housing as part of a rehabilitation initiative, as per an official notice.
The notice, issued by the Land & Development Office (L&D) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), mandates that residents of BR Camp, Masjid Camp, and DID Camp near Race Course Road relocate to the newly assigned flats at Savda Ghevra in northwest Delhi.
A MoHUA official confirmed that all residents in these three clusters have been allocated housing, with a total of 717 flats assigned.
The notice clarified that the JJ clusters are located on government property. A joint survey, conducted in January 2024 in collaboration with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), assessed residents’ eligibility for rehabilitation under the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) policy.
The eligibility assessment has been completed and approved, leading to the allocation of alternative accommodations in the Savda Ghevra DUSIB colony.
Prior notices regarding rehabilitation and eviction were issued on October 29, 2025, notifying residents of their housing allocations and advising them to vacate their current premises for a smooth transition.
This issue was also brought before the Delhi High Court, which, in a ruling on November 13, 2025, mandated adherence to due process. Consequently, officials have distributed a final notice requiring residents to vacate by March 6.
The notice further states that non-compliance will result in eviction proceedings and the removal of structures in accordance with the law.
