Bihar asks Centre to release ₹3,000 crore for PMAY-Gramin

PATNA: The Bihar government has requested the Centre to expedite the release of the pending ₹3,000 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G), as announced by a state minister during Wednesday’s assembly session.

In response to a question, Rural Development Minister Sharwan Kumar explained that the Centre had previously released ₹91 crore in January, which was distributed among PMAY-G beneficiaries without an SNA account.

“We faced challenges in establishing an SNA account for fund distribution under PMAY-G. We have asked the Centre to release ₹3,000 crore, allowing us to distribute the funds to beneficiaries without an SNA,” he elaborated.

The Single Nodal Agency (SNA) system, introduced in 2021, revamped the process of releasing, disbursing, and monitoring funds for centrally sponsored schemes (CSS).

Funds for PMAY-G are transferred directly to beneficiaries’ accounts through the PFMS-AwaasSoft platform from the SNA.

“The state government is working swiftly to establish its SNA account. In the meantime, I have formally requested the Centre to release ₹3,000 crore, enabling the Bihar government to distribute these funds to eligible beneficiaries before March 31, 2026,” the minister stated.

The government has secured approval for funding to build over 12.08 lakh pucca houses under PMAY-G. “To date, the state has disbursed the first installment to 11.35 lakh beneficiaries, while about 72,492 are still awaiting their payments. Approximately 9.16 lakh houses remain to be completed under PMAY-G,” Kumar added.

The PMAY-G initiative is a key program of the central government aimed at ensuring affordable housing for all.
