BHOPAL: Landowners along the proposed route for the Bhopal Metro’s Orange Line are increasingly opting for the Madhya Pradesh Aapsi Kharid Niti – 2014 (Mutual Purchase Policy), which facilitates land acquisition through mutual consent.
This policy allows those agreeing to transfer their land for Metro development to receive compensation within two months, simplifying the process and avoiding protracted acquisition procedures.
To date, 40 property owners have consented to participate in the scheme. Most will receive compensation for structures on their land, while bhoomi swamis (landowners) will get full compensation as per policy stipulations. The 60-day objection period has concluded in several areas, with others ending on September 24, as confirmed by officials from the district administration and MPMRCL.
Final surveys are set to begin soon, representing the next phase in the Metro’s expansion efforts. The acquisition is progressing with the cooperation of both private landowners and government departments.
For those who have not agreed to the mutual purchase policy, the acquisition process has begun at the SDM level. The first notifications for acquisition were issued on July 11, allowing a 60-day period for objections. Further actions are anticipated in the coming weeks.
“All land along the approved Metro alignment has been acquired. Current guidelines dictate that owners receive double the collectorate rate as compensation,” stated an official. Three notifications pertaining to the acquisition process have been issued, covering 2.705 hectares across 20 khasras, approximately 40 hectares across 65 khasras, and 0.9761 hectares across 27 khasras. Acquiring government department lands is expected to proceed smoothly.
