BENGALURU: Abhivrudhi, meaning development, is a garden layout situated in a neglected area between Bengaluru City East Corporation and Kithaganur Gram Panchayat.

Despite paying property taxes to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for over a decade, residents continue to lack basic amenities, primarily due to the layout’s borderline position between the two jurisdictions.

Residents claim that BBMP has avoided developmental responsibilities, citing jurisdiction issues while still collecting property tax from over 70 properties. Frustrated, they approached the Bengaluru East City Corporation at KR Puram to present a memorandum requesting essential services.

“We have endured years of tax payments without seeing any improvement. We even bear the cost of fixing street lights ourselves. The area has been overlooked for far too long,” expressed Prakash NB, a local resident.

He noted the absence of underground drainage (UGD), saying, “We’ve consistently paid our development charges and property taxes to the BBMP. With over 70 buildings here, we’ve had no choice but to dig soak pits ourselves, while relying on Kithaganur Gram Panchayat workers for waste management.”

Another resident, Vikram Subramani, highlighted the poor condition of roads: “The BBMP has neglected road maintenance since the layout’s establishment by the land developer. Water stagnation poses significant health risks.” An unnamed resident added that no arrangements for Cauvery water supply have been made yet.

VP Krishna, founder of the KR Puram Constituency Association Welfare Federation, lamented the neglect from both BBMP and Kithaganur Gram Panchayat. “I urge the Bengaluru East City Corporation to act swiftly in providing these basic amenities,” he stated.

In response, Bengaluru East City Corporation Assistant Engineer Srikanth mentioned he would investigate the Abhivrudhi Garden Layout. “We may have overlooked part of the layout, believing it fell under Kithaganur Gram Panchayat. I will assess the situation and address any issues if it is indeed part of our jurisdiction,” he confirmed.
