BENGALURU: The BBMP is facing a growing backlash over 31,000 e-khata show-cause notices for property tax on parking areas, resulting in a significant backlog of unresolved grievances and a high rate of reopened complaints.
In four wards—Kengeri, Hoodi, Horamavu, and Begur—over one-third of cases related to BBMP’s e-khata notices remain unresolved.
As of August 7, 32 new complaints were reported, with 70 cases resolved in the past day, leaving 124 complaints pending. Additionally, 46 complaints were reopened, indicating dissatisfaction with previous resolutions.
The Mahadevapura zone has the most unresolved complaints, with Hoodi (12 pending) and Horamavu (10 pending) recording the highest number of reopened cases in the city. Kengeri in Rajarajeshwarinagar zone shows 28 pending cases, contributing significantly to the overall backlog.
Begur in Bommanahalli is also problematic, with 8 pending cases and multiple reopenings. The Dasarahalli zone has poor resolution rates, with eight of nine escalated cases reopened and 13 pending, while Shettyhalli has six unresolved cases. Conversely, the East zone resolved 12 complaints in 24 hours but faced challenges in areas like CV Raman Nagar, and Yelahanka, though it saw fewer escalations, still had two reopened and three pending cases.
Moudgil advises calling helpline instead of visiting BBMP offices
BBMP Special Commissioner (Revenue), Munish Moudgil, has encouraged citizens to contact the dedicated e-khata helpline (94806 83695) for grievances instead of visiting BBMP offices. The helpline typically handles around 1,000 calls daily, with most inquiries seeking information.
Any grievance requiring action is forwarded to the appropriate officers, who follow up to ensure resolution. Resolved grievances are verified with the complainants, and reopened if necessary. Moudgil highlighted that the daily grievance report reflects a high resolution rate, with approximately 124 cases pending.
