BENGALURU: Despite repeated appeals and reassurances from the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) Commissioner and Chairman, as well as visits from Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and the Legislative Assembly’s Petition Committee, site owners at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout (NPKL) are still facing unresolved issues.

The persistent problems with infrastructure became evident once more when heavy rains transformed several areas into muddy, impassable zones. A poignant image of an autorickshaw driver struggling to free his vehicle from the mud has come to symbolize residents’ frustrations. Locals reported that the driver was transporting a family member to a nearby hospital when his vehicle became stuck.

Residents criticize the BDA for failing to deliver essential infrastructure, despite multiple extensions of deadlines from the Karnataka Real Estate Regulatory Authority (K-RERA). “The engineers have done nothing to improve our roads in the 3rd Block, A Sector of the layout. Most roads remain unpaved even a decade after site allotments,” said Madhu Sudhan V, whose mother is among the allottees. “Her dream of building a house here should not be just a dream,” he added.

Another local, Prashant S, emphasized the continuing ordeal for site allottees despite numerous complaints and inspections. “I urge BDA engineers to visit the area and take note of its condition,” he remarked.

Santosh P Kandagal, another site owner, expressed dismay at the situation. “Even after paying the full site value in 2016 and 2018, we still cannot build our homes. Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout has become a nightmare for homebuilders,” he said.

Residents claim that, although BDA officials frequently visit the area and promise improvements, no real progress has been made. Many streets lack asphalt, drainage systems are blocked, and there are no proper streetlights or sewage systems, leaving the area in disrepair each monsoon.

In reaction to the outcry, the BDA publicly apologized on the social media platform X, stating, “We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused. Weekly meetings have started to expedite work, and representatives from NPKL are part of a WhatsApp group monitoring progress.”

However, for the hundreds of site owners who have waited nearly a decade, such promises have yet to result in tangible change.
