Assam CM Distributes PMAY-G Sanction Letters to 3.25L Beneficiaries

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday that the government is committed to providing ‘pucca’ (concrete) houses for all citizens in the state.

He made this statement during the launch of the distribution of sanction letters to 325,234 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) at a state-level event held in Boko, Kamrup district.

Sarma highlighted that the initiative aims to secure housing for economically disadvantaged families nationwide, emphasizing the state’s determination to ensure all eligible individuals receive benefits.

He noted that on May 19, 2022, the state government distributed sanction letters to 500,000 beneficiaries, releasing the first installment to 200,000 families that same month, followed by an additional 300,000 families in February 2023.

In July 2023, the government celebrated the ‘Griha Pravesh’ of over 300,000 PMAY beneficiaries in a single day.

Additionally, sanction letters for 388,358 beneficiaries were distributed in March this year, with a further 325,000 beneficiaries receiving letters on Tuesday.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring every family living in ‘kutcha’ housing transitions to pucca homes, Sarma noted that geo-tagging of eligible households has been finalized, and new beneficiary lists will soon be created in gram sabhas.

This scheme is designed to provide relief and dignity to underprivileged families by guaranteeing safe housing.

He also discussed other welfare initiatives, stating that the government aims to create a transparent system where poor families can easily access various schemes without facing corruption. Sarma emphasized that through different central and state programs, each impoverished family in the state benefits from nearly ₹3,000 monthly and encouraged them to invest their savings in their children’s education.
