VIJAYAWADA: Following cabinet approval, the state government is advancing with the second phase of the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) in Amaravati by formally designating the CRDA to pool 6,666.57 acres. The CRDA will manage all land types—both titled and assigned—across seven villages for the capital city’s expansion.
The CRDA plans to pool about 1,965 acres in Vaikunthapuram, 1,018 acres in Peddamadduru, 1,879 acres in Yendrayi village, and 46 acres of assigned land in Palnadu district’s Amaravati mandal. Additionally, it will acquire 2,603 acres of patta land and 51 acres of assigned land in Karlapudi and Lemalle villages in Thulluru mandal, and 1,448.09 acres of patta land along with 2.29 acres of assigned land in Harischandrapuram. This will include 5,886.18 acres of patta land in Pedaparimi. Overall, this phase targets pooling a total of 16,562.52 acres of patta land and 104.01 acres of assigned land from the seven villages, along with 3,828.30 acres of government land.
The second phase of the LPS marks a crucial move in revitalizing Amaravati. Initially, the CRDA aimed to pool around 20,494 acres, but this has been reduced to approximately 16,552 acres in this phase. Reports suggest that the government may pursue another pooling round after completing this phase to acquire the remaining 4,000 acres.
The government previously acquired around 33,000 acres from farmers in the first phase of LPS. Due to a few farmers refusing to relinquish their land, the government has opted to invoke the Land Acquisition Act to take over approximately 2,000 acres. Overall, the government has secured rights to nearly 55,000 acres in the capital region, having already acquired almost 20,000 acres of assigned land, land from various religious institutions, and government properties, including forest land.
The upcoming phase of LPS is expected to further increase government holdings by around 16,500 acres, expanding the capital city area to nearly 65,000-70,000 acres.
