VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh government has taken significant steps to establish the state as a prominent hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) by forming a comprehensive GCC advisory council.
This initiative gathers CXOs from global companies, influential industry bodies like NASSCOM, business councils, consulting experts, real estate developers, and renowned academic institutions. The aim is to invigorate GCC investments and elevate AP’s status as a leader in the digital economy.
IT, electronics, and HRD minister Nara Lokesh will lead the advisory council.
GCCs serve as strategic units for multinational corporations, handling functions such as R&D, IT, finance, procurement, and customer services. They have emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments in global business. Distinct from traditional outsourcing, GCCs are wholly owned by their parent companies, fostering innovation, efficiency, and better integration with global operations. With over 1,600 GCCs operating across India, employing approximately 1.6 million professionals, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself to attract the next wave of investments.
The new GCC advisory council will work on a broad mandate, creating a five-year strategic roadmap for the GCC sector in AP. This includes developing a future-ready talent ecosystem through collaborations with IIT Tirupati and IIM Visakhapatnam, driving innovation and R&D via global partnerships, building world-class infrastructure, and overseeing the implementation of IT & GCC Policy (4.0). The government has also approved a three-month initiative of national and international roadshows to showcase Andhra Pradesh as a preferred destination for GCCs, aiming to create thousands of high-value jobs and strengthen its position in the global tech arena.
The council’s composition is designed to provide substantial strength and credibility:
- CXOs of major MNCs with GCCs in India: AXA XL, Mastercard, Warner Bros. Discovery, Novartis, Syngenta, and BT Group
- Global Business Councils: USIBC and EBTC
- Industry body: NASSCOM
- Consulting & Service Providers: ANSR, EY, KPMG, Deloitte, Primus Partners
- Workplace & Real Estate Leaders: Knight Frank India, Prestige Group, Sattva, Sobha
- Talent Partners: Quess Corp
- Academic Institutions: IIT Tirupati and IIM Visakhapatnam
