JAMMU: On Saturday, Jammu and Kashmir Police took action against seven landlords for allegedly allowing tenants to reside on their properties without proper police verification. This initiative has been intensified ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, according to police reports.
Police Station Bahu Fort has filed five FIRs under Section 223 of the BNS against landlords for infringing upon the District Magistrate’s order by not ensuring that tenants undergo mandatory police verification.
In addition, two more FIRs were documented at Police Station Channi Himmat regarding similar violations. These actions form part of a routine verification campaign aimed at enforcing compliance with tenant verification protocols, particularly in light of the upcoming Republic Day celebrations and the associated security measures.
The police urged all landlords to comply strictly with the tenant verification guidelines and to cooperate with law enforcement.
“We encourage citizens to stay vigilant and fully cooperate in maintaining peace and order, thereby ensuring a safe environment during the impending Republic Day celebrations,” the police stated.
On December 20 of last year, the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched an online tenant verification portal, “Kirayedar”, to address ongoing challenges in tenant reporting despite existing regulations and legal actions against non-compliant landlords.
