Delhi Mayor Urges Clearing Property Tax Dues in Amnesty Scheme

NEW DELHI: Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh urged residents to pay overdue property taxes under the Property Tax Amnesty Scheme 2025-26, which includes waivers on interest and penalties. The offer ends on January 31.

The Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana (SUNIYO) allows taxpayers to completely waive property tax, interest, and penalties for dues from before the 2020-21 fiscal year, contingent on payment of the principal tax for the current year (2025-26) and for the previous five years (2020-21 to 2024-25). A late fee of 5% is applicable after the deadline.

“We encourage property owners to take full advantage of this opportunity under the UNIYO scheme and settle their outstanding taxes without any additional penalties,” the mayor stated. Public response has been notable.

By December 31, 2025, 166,587 taxpayers had paid a total of Rs 803.61 crore under the scheme, with residential properties contributing Rs 188.28 crore and non-residential properties Rs 615.32 crore.

The initiative also welcomed 90,139 first-time taxpayers, generating an additional Rs 312.45 crore.

Overall, property tax collections for this year reached Rs 2,642.80 crore from 1,242,875 taxpayers, showcasing a 42.1% increase in collections and a 20.52% rise in the number of taxpayers compared to the previous year.
