NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is set to identify 14 more construction and demolition (C&D) waste dumping sites, which will be equipped with CCTV surveillance and mist spray systems, according to an official statement made on Friday.

Currently, there are 132 such sites in operation, and efforts to locate 14 new sites are ongoing under the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Framework, as confirmed by senior civic officials to PTI.

To enhance monitoring and dust control, CCTV cameras with automatic number plate recognition systems and mist sprayers will be installed at all sites. The installation aims to monitor illegal dumping and improve management practices, with a budget of Rs 7.1 crore approved for camera installation and upgrades at 106 sites.

Meanwhile, enforcement measures against open burning have intensified this year, with nearly 375 challans issued in 2025, resulting in penalties totaling Rs 19.5 lakh.

In order to boost ground-level actions, 1,812 enforcement teams have been established, actively working around the clock to monitor violations and ensure adherence to pollution control regulations. The MCD has also taken stringent action against offenders.

In November, the civic body issued 943 challans for C&D waste sites, imposing penalties amounting to Rs 1.5 crore. Recently, MCD enforcement teams inspected 145 construction sites under 500 square meters, identifying nine sites that were non-registered or non-compliant, resulting in environmental compensation being charged to all.
