LUDHIANA: Continuing its crackdown on unauthorized urban development, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) building branch demolished or sealed seven illegal structures throughout the city on Friday.
Following direct orders from MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, officials from Zone D focused on high-profile commercial and residential areas. This action is part of a larger plan to enforce newly established unified building bylaws and to penalize those circumventing the official approval process.
Assistant Town Planner (ATP) Harvinder Singh confirmed that the targeted properties were either constructed without approved plans or breached zoning regulations. Demolitions occurred at Kochar Market Road (1) and Gurdev Nagar (1), while properties were sealed at BRS Nagar Road (2), Dugri-Jawaddi Road (2), and Ghumar Mandi-College Road (1).
The building branch indicated that the owners of the sealed properties had received repeated warnings regarding their non-compliance prior to the sealing operations. ATP Singh emphasized that the enforcement efforts would escalate in the coming weeks to deter spontaneous, unapproved construction.
“We urge all residents to begin any construction work only after securing digital approval through the appropriate channels,” Singh stated. “Not having a sanctioned plan will result in immediate demolition without further notice.”
This enforcement action coincides with the city’s shift to a new self-certification model, aimed at curtailing illegal construction by streamlining the legal approval process.
