CHANDIGARH: On Sunday, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria visited several project sites in the UT, assessing major housing initiatives, development projects, bulk material locations, and group housing areas.
Sites Inspected
The governor inspected various locations, including the IT Habitat project in IT Park, Manimajra (pocket 6), Sanjay Colony in Industrial Area Phase-I, the government housing site in Sector 43, and the Chandigarh Housing Board project site in Sector 53. Particular attention was paid to the 70-acre mixed-use development at the Sub-City Centre and the reclaimed Furniture Market land in Sector 54 to ensure proper zoning and future-oriented planning.
Directions Issued
While reviewing the government housing project in Sector 43, the governor instructed officials to incorporate essential amenities like dhobi (laundry) facilities, grocery shops, and commercial spaces in the layout. He emphasized that upcoming residential projects should allow in-house allotment for government employees, reducing dependence on House Rent Allowance (HRA).
At the Bulk Material market site in Sector 56, a 55-acre commercial hub, the governor highlighted the need for transparency and organized operations. The District Commissioner indicated that priority would be given to accommodating Dhanas marble dealers and furniture market shop owners, with approvals for three-storey buildings on individual plots to optimize space and minimize costs.
