INDORE: The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has demolished portions of 140 houses on Street Number 2 in Malviya Nagar to facilitate road widening as part of the Master Plan. This extensive operation aims to remove obstacles for the MR-9 to LIG Link Road, which will function as a parallel route to Ring Road and AB Road between C21 Mall and LIG Square.
The IMC deployed five earth movers and five excavators during this operation, successfully clearing the area needed for a 60-foot (18-meter) wide road.
While some residents voiced their distress, others recognized the necessity of the broader road, confirming they had received prior notices. Resident Bablu Chouhan shared that 19 feet of his house were demolished but acknowledged, “The road construction will benefit us too. We received a notice in April, so we preemptively demolished part of it ourselves.”
Another resident, Raju Singh, mentioned, “17.5 feet of my house was removed. The IMC issued a final notice four days ago. We took down half of it ourselves.” He expressed concerns, suggesting that a slightly narrower road could have sufficed given the proximity of the Ring Road and AB Road.
Conversely, long-time resident Ajab Singh complained about being denied a request for a 24-hour extension.
IMC building officer Vinod Agrawal stated that this action was essential to widen the Malviya Nagar road to 60 feet. “Residents were notified in advance, and many voluntarily demolished parts of their homes,” he said.
This action in Malviya Nagar follows a similar operation earlier this week, which saw 11 homes partially demolished along the route from Khade Ganapati to Tigariya Badshah for a 100-foot wide road.
IMC Commissioner Dilip Yadav emphasized that adhering to the Master Plan is vital for future traffic management, especially with events like Ujjain Simhastha scheduled for 2028.
