Protest for Oran Land Registration in Jaisalmer Concludes

JAISALMER: The 34-day protest advocating for the formal recognition of Oran-Gochar land concluded late Sunday night following successful discussions between the Oran representatives and the district administration.

The negotiations took place at the Jaisalmer Collectorate, attended by local MLA Chhotusingh Bhati, Pokaran MLA Mahant Pratappuri, district collector Pratap Singh, and members of the Oran team. After thorough discussions, the administration consented to most demands, promising that the registration of Oran land in official records would be completed in three months.

Pratap Singh highlighted that this initiative marks a historic change for the region. “The administration has submitted proposals to the state government to register approximately 100,000 bighas of land, which includes Oran, ponds, rivers, streams, and other traditional water sources. Specifically, about 17,562 bighas are designated as Oran land, comprising 3,608 bighas of Swangiya Ji Oran in Punamnagar, 7,473 bighas of Aalaji Oran in Kuchdi, 598 bighas of Tanotray Oran in Binjota, and 5,883 bighas of Bhimsar Degray Oran,” he stated.

The agreement also stipulates that pending Oran proposals at the tehsil, sub-division, and district levels will be forwarded to the state government. Gochar land registration will proceed in accordance with current regulations. Comprehensive surveys will also be conducted on roads, rivers, streams, ponds, Aagor, Pachhor, monuments, Khadin, wells, and cremation grounds. Proposals for these surveys will be drafted and submitted to the state government, prioritizing regions earmarked for solar and cement industries.

The administration vowed to track progress through regular reporting to ensure timely processing and registration of all Oran proposals. Furthermore, they will collaborate with local gram panchayats to preserve traditional cultural heritage.
