GORAKHPUR: In a move to spread festive joy ahead of Diwali, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday distributed keys to 160 families under the EWS/LIG housing scheme at Palm Paradise, Deoria Bypass, Gorakhpur.
The project, initiated by the Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA), offers 80 flats for the economically weaker section (EWS) and another 80 for the lower-income group (LIG).
The CM inaugurated and laid the foundation for 50 development projects worth ₹118 crore and also planted saplings. Yogi mentioned that for many families, owning a home is a cherished dream, and for 160 families, this Diwali signifies the realization of that dream.
“This initiative directly benefits around 700–800 individuals. It’s more than just housing—it’s a transformative moment,” he stated.
The allotment of flats was conducted transparently, with 40 reserved for displaced families and 120 selected via a lottery from over 9,000 applications. EWS flats, measuring 35 sqm, were offered at ₹5.4 lakh (compared to a market value of ₹13–15 lakh), while 41 sqm LIG flats were priced at ₹10.8 lakh (market rate ₹19–20 lakh).
Praising the location near Ramgarh Tal and the zoo, CM Yogi recommended the formation of maintenance committees for the high-rise buildings. He emphasized that Uttar Pradesh has built over 60 lakh homes, asserting, “Under honest governance, even the underprivileged can aspire for greater things.”
