GURUGRAM: GMRL is set to award the contract for the first phase of the Millennium City Centre-Cyber City in about a month and aims to kick off construction by September this year.
Officials announced on Sunday that bids for the first phase of the new metro corridor have been assessed. The joint venture of Dilip Buildcon Ltd (DBL) and RBL is currently the lowest bidder for the construction contract, although the evaluation process remains ongoing.
“The evaluation is nearing completion. We expect to finalize everything within this month and aim to commence construction by September. The project is projected for completion within 30 months,” stated a senior GMRL official. GMRL plans to develop the new corridor in three phases.
In Phase 1, the agency plans the construction of a 15.2 km elevated metro line stretching from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, with an allocated budget of Rs 1,503 crore. The tender for civil work for Phase 1 was released in March of this year, attracting eight participating agencies. Following a technical evaluation, six agencies were deemed eligible. This section will include 14 stations and is expected to enhance connectivity to vital residential and commercial zones in both old and new regions of Gurgaon. The project also includes a 1.8 km spur to the Dwarka Expressway and a ramp leading to the proposed metro depot in Sector 33. The planned stations comprise Sector 45, Cyber Park, Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 33, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar 6, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai, and Sector 101.
The Union Cabinet approved the new corridor in 2023 to address the escalating public transportation needs of the city. At present, Gurgaon has the Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro, terminating at Millennium City Centre, and the Rapid Metro. The new line is anticipated to alleviate congestion, particularly in sectors currently not linked by the metro, including densely populated areas like sectors 9, 4, 5, 10, and 7.
