THANE: The Thane Municipal Corporation has implemented a ban on the transport of construction materials in the environmentally sensitive area of Yeoor Hills, officials reported on Sunday.
The decision came during a review meeting led by Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao on Friday.
“Yeoor is an environmentally sensitive area. No construction material may enter Yeoor without a valid construction permit issued by the Thane Municipal Corporation’s Urban Development Department,” an official release stated.
Those possessing authorized construction permits must register their details with the forest department’s entrance post. This includes a copy of the permit, the type of construction materials, and information related to the transporting vehicles.
Deputy Commissioner Dinesh Tayde reported that out of the 10 turf constructions in Yeoor, eight have already been removed. Currently, only one turf holds authorization, while eviction processes for the others are in progress as the deadline has passed. A survey of unauthorized commercial constructions is also ongoing, the official added.
Private bungalow owners have been instructed to refrain from using excessive lighting, loudspeakers, or setting off firecrackers on their premises, the civic chief announced.
Thus far, 188 notices have been issued to Yeoor residents for violations, and DCP Prashant Kadam mentioned that 18 FIRs have been filed for various infractions related to noise and firecracker regulations.
To promote ongoing enforcement and safeguard the ecology of the region, Rao declared the establishment of a multi-agency coordination committee, led by the additional commissioner, according to the release.
