679 PMAY Houses Completed in Bhaderwah, J&K

BHADERWAH: The Centre has successfully completed 679 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bhaderwah, as reported by the Block Development Officer.

The execution of PMAY in this region reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to providing housing for all. In the financial year 2023-24, 718 beneficiaries were identified, with 679 houses completed, representing a significant achievement in rural infrastructure and welfare initiatives.

Bhaderwah Block Development Officer Yasir Ahmed stated to ANI, “Finishing 679 houses within a single financial year under PMAY showcases our team’s dedication and the government’s vision of ‘Housing for All’. Special emphasis was placed on assisting poor and tribal families living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. Many now have permanent homes equipped with essential facilities, greatly enhancing their quality of life.”

“We aim to achieve 100% coverage of eligible beneficiaries in the upcoming months,” the officer added.

Thanks to the PMAY, homeless families in the hilly terrains of Bhaderwah are now acquiring homes. This flagship rural housing initiative has transformed the lives of underprivileged families, especially those from economically weaker sections, by helping them realize their long-held aspiration of owning a home.

For residents like Shahdi Lal, a 66-year-old daily wage laborer from Bhaderwah, this scheme has been life-altering.

Shahdi Lal expressed to ANI, “Previously, I faced numerous challenges living in a dilapidated mud-walled house with my family, especially during thunderstorms and rainy seasons. However, thanks to the government’s assistance, I’ve now secured a new home under PMAY. I am grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the district administration for providing us with a pucca house.”

“At my age, it was impossible to build a house with my limited income as a laborer. PMAY has offered a lifeline in the form of a sturdy home that withstands the harsh cold. It has greatly improved my family’s quality of life,” he said.

As the region continuously reaps the benefits of targeted welfare programs, Bhaderwah exemplifies how effective governance can lead to meaningful, grassroots-level change.
