Centre Approves Noida Metro Aqua Line to Boraki Hub

NOIDA: The Centre has approved the extension of Noida Metro’s Aqua Line to Boraki, situated less than an hour’s drive from Jewar, moving the city’s transit network closer to the forthcoming Noida International Airport.

The 2.6-km elevated section will feature two new stations—Junpat and Boraki—at a total investment of ₹416 crore. This project is projected to be completed within three years.

The extension aims to connect the Aqua Line to the proposed multi-modal transport hub at Boraki. The UP government plans to merge the Delhi-Howrah rail corridor with an interstate bus terminal and a rapid rail line to Ghaziabad. The Greater Noida rail station at Boraki is set to be NCR’s entry point to the eastern region of the country.

Officials indicated that this initiative is part of a larger strategy to alleviate road traffic congestion and enhance connectivity to the airport from various locations in Noida and Delhi. A draft plan to extend the Aqua Line’s Sector 142 station to the Botanical Garden is currently under review by the Centre. The existing Botanical Garden station in Noida already serves as an interchange for the Blue Line and Magenta Line corridors of the Delhi Metro.

Mahendra Prasad, executive director of the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), informed TOI that a rapid rail corridor connecting Ghaziabad to Jewar via Boraki is also in the planning stages. “Once both corridors are operational, commuters from Noida and Greater Noida will find it much easier to access the airport,” he stated.

The funding for the new metro corridor will be shared by the Centre and the UP government (20% each), with the remaining 60% financed through a loan from the National Capital Region Planning Board. NMRC anticipates that ridership on this new segment could reach 60,000 daily by 2031.

Currently, the Aqua Line operates over a distance of 29.7 km between Sector 51 in Noida and Depot Station in Jaitpur. The NMRC has proposed an additional 17-km extension from Sector 51 to Knowledge Park V in Greater Noida, awaiting approval from the Centre. Similarly, an 11.6-km corridor linking the Sector 142 station to the Botanical Garden via eight new stations is pending clearance from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. According to NMRC data, the current Aqua Line experiences an average daily ridership of nearly 57,000 passengers.
