CHANDIGARH: The board of directors of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has approved the launch of the housing scheme in Sector 53.

“For the final approval, CHB has submitted the proposal to the UT administrator. Once it is approved, we will initiate the launch process. Most preparations are complete, and it will take about a month after the approval to officially launch the scheme,” said a UT official.

The scheme has faced delays for over seven years. Initially, it was set to launch in 2018, but a demand survey indicated limited interest due to high unit costs.

Although the scheme was revived in 2023, the administration postponed its launch, deciding that new housing wasn’t necessary at that time. It was revived again in 2024, with a fresh demand survey conducted in 2025.

Originally, 492 flats were planned, but in 2022, CHB dropped the plan for 100 one-room flats. Currently, 372 flats are set to be offered in three categories: 192 three-bedroom, 100 two-bedroom, and 80 two-bedroom EWS flats.

Prices will range from Rs 73 lakh to Rs 2.3 crore, based on the apartment’s area. Earlier this year, CHB refunded the deposit to applicants who participated in the previous demand survey, as the apartment prices had increased following a hike in the collector rate.
