Telangana HC to Hear PIL on 27-Acre Land with Builders

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court has agreed to hear a public interest litigation from four Congress MLAs regarding the alleged illegal transfer of 27 acres of valuable government land in Khajaguda, which is valued at over ₹2,000 crore, to private real estate developers.

The disputed land, located in survey No. 27/2 of Khajaguda village within the Serilingampally mandal, is reportedly under development for a large high-rise project by private builders. The petitioners have requested the court to instruct the state government to reclaim the land and stop ongoing construction, which they argue is harmful to the environment and based on misleading information.

Filed by MLAs J Anirudh Reddy (Jadcherla), Yennam Srinivas Reddy (Mahbubnagar), Murali Naik Bhukya (Mahabubabad), and K Rajesh Reddy (Nagarkurnool), the PIL claims that officials allowed the land to be seized despite government records dating back to the 1950s confirming it as public property. A bench led by Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Renuka Yara has allowed lawyer Chikkudu Prabhakar, representing the MLAs, to issue personal notices to involved private parties.

During the initial hearing on June 16, the court instructed the petitioners to submit a comprehensive representation to state authorities, including specific survey numbers and maps of the disputed land.

In response, the MLAs presented detailed documentation to the chief secretary, principal secretary (revenue), and heads of several departments, such as GHMC, HMDA, RERA, CCLA, and the Pollution Control Board, outlining their concerns. They alleged unlawful transfer of government land and highlighted environmental risks posed by construction activities near Kotha Cheruvu lake, which obstruct water channels and destroy green spaces. The High Court has requested responses from private defendants and set a hearing for two weeks later.
