HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has officially inaugurated the Indiramma housing scheme aimed at supporting the underprivileged in the Hyderabad Core Urban Region.
The scheme was launched by State Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, along with cabinet colleagues D Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, and Mohammad Azharuddin.
In the first phase, the government will allocate 500 houses each in 16 of the 24 Assembly constituencies within the CURE.
The implementation in the remaining eight areas will follow shortly, Reddy noted.
Overall, the government aims to construct one lakh homes in Hyderabad CURE.
Previously, four lakh houses were approved in the first phase and an additional 2.5 lakh in the second phase of the Indiramma initiative, with the Hyderabad CURE phase following on its heels.
The project will include multi-storey buildings, each featuring flats with a built-up area of 525 sq ft.
The estimated cost for constructing each unit is Rs 11 lakh, with the government providing a subsidy of Rs 5 lakh. Beneficiaries will need to pay Rs 6 lakh to the government in four installments.
The annual income threshold for beneficiaries is capped at Rs 6 lakh.
It is also essential that beneficiaries do not currently own a house or plot within CURE.
The Indiramma houses will have a restriction on sale for 10 years, but they can be mortgaged to secure loans. Reservations for SC, ST, and BC categories will be observed in the allocation process, he added.
Sridhar Babu described the construction of Indiramma houses in CURE as “revolutionary.”
