PANCHKULA: The municipal corporation (MC) of Panchkula has initiated Property Tax Facilitation and Rectification Camps across various wards to assist property owners in clearing their dues before the extended deadline of August 31. This move comes as property tax collections have not met expectations.
The camps, which began on Thursday, are located at community centers and MC offices. They offer residents help with self-certifying property details, correcting records, updating ownership information and mobile numbers, verifying outstanding dues, and paying property tax.
Property owners must complete self-certification through the Property Tax Dues Payment and No Dues Certificate Management System portal, with MC officials available to provide assistance.
Previously, the civic body had offered a 100% interest waiver on pending dues for payments made by June 30, but only managed to recover Rs 5.92 crore by that deadline, leading to the extension until August 31.
According to official data, Panchkula has 1,04,631 properties, yet only 44,002 (42.05%) have completed self-certification. Additionally, the MC has identified property tax arrears totaling Rs 37.68 crore from 697 properties with dues exceeding Rs 2 lakh each.
Of the total outstanding amount, Rs 25.95 crore is owed by private properties, while government properties account for Rs 11.73 crore.
Under the new scheme, taxpayers can receive a one-time 75% interest waiver on pending property tax arrears from 2010-11 to 2024-25 if dues are cleared by August 31, 2026. Officials have cautioned that property owners who do not take advantage of this scheme may face recovery actions under the Haryana Municipal Act, 1994, as well as other legal consequences.
