Odisha: New IT Park to Open in Damana

BHUBANESWAR: The state government has unveiled plans to create a large, integrated IT park near Damana Square, adjacent to the Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan Road. This initiative aims to be a major contributor to the state’s digital economy and job creation.

The IT park will be developed by the Electronics and Information Technology Department and is set to become a forward-thinking technology hub, enhancing Odisha’s standing as a developing destination for IT and IT-enabled services (ITES), according to officials.

As stated in the expression of interest (EOI) released by the Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC), the project will engage the private sector for design, financing, operation, and maintenance.

Strategically placed in the city’s expanding technology corridor, the site at Damana Square is located between Infocity, roughly 3 km away, and Infovalley, about 23 km away, which adds to its attractiveness for investors and tech companies.

The IT park is envisioned as a “walk-to-work” environment covering approximately 25 acres, with around 45 lakh sq ft of built-up space primarily dedicated to IT/ITES operations.

Officials indicated that the development will transcend traditional office environments by integrating commercial, residential, and recreational facilities to establish a self-sustaining urban ecosystem.

The proposed infrastructure design includes modern office towers, co-working and incubation areas, retail and hospitality amenities, as well as serviced apartments to support both multinational corporations and startups, officials remarked.

The park is expected to feature smart and sustainable design elements, adhering to green building standards, high-speed digital connectivity, and efficient utility systems, aligning with the state’s commitment to sustainable urban progression.

This initiative forms part of the state’s broader strategy to cultivate a robust digital landscape, encourage IT sector investment, and enhance employment opportunities. The government is dedicated to expanding digital infrastructure and fostering entrepreneurship.

Officials involved with the project mentioned that OCAC will serve as the central agency, facilitating the project and aiding the chosen developer in securing necessary approvals and infrastructure support.

Importantly, OCAC has already received approval and designated space to operate IT and ITES activities from the Baba Saheb Ambedkar Bus Terminal in Baramunda. Additionally, the state government is progressing on the development of an iconic IT tower in Satya Nagar.
