BHOPAL: On Friday, the district administration demolished structures on two plots of land in the Huzur area, where illegal colonies were being constructed, resulting in the clearance of encroachments valued at Rs 27 crore. One of these colonies was found at Barkhedi Bajayaft on land owned by the son of a former IAS officer, who previously served as Bhopal collector, according to sources.
The demolition initiative began at Mendori village near Kerwa Dam, where an illegal colony was being developed on 1.59 hectares by a developer. The land cleared from encroachments is estimated to be worth Rs 15 crore. Subsequently, the anti-demolition squad moved to Barkhedi Bajayaft, where another unauthorized colony was being established by the same builder. Sources indicate that this land, also linked to the former IAS officer’s son, holds a market value of Rs 12 crore.
Huzur SDM Vinod Sonakiya reported that a total of 24 illegal colonies, developed without necessary statutory approvals, have been demolished in the Huzur area to date. He noted that builders had created roads and subdivided plots for sale without the legal permissions required.
