GURUGRAM: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has laid out a plan to enhance the management of construction and demolition (C&D) waste within the city. During a recent review meeting with the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), officials announced that a new processing plant, capable of handling 400 tonnes of C&D waste per day, is set to launch by February 2027.
Currently, Gurgaon needs twelve C&D waste collection points, as per the guideline of one point for every 25 sq km. Right now, operational facilities can be found in Basai and Begampur Khatola, and officials confirmed that new collection centers in Babupur and Daulatabad are expected to be operational by the end of the month.
Additionally, MCG has pinpointed 20 locations for establishing secondary waste collection centers, including Sectors 4, 21, 22, 38, and 40, as well as other areas like Palam Vihar C2 Block, Sarai STP, Ullawas Road, Kadipur, and Baliyawas village.
“We have identified 20 sites for developing secondary C&D waste collection centers,” stated an MCG representative.
The civic body also shared insights on C&D waste processing and utilization. Last financial year, approximately 330,000 metric tonnes (MT) of processed waste were sold in the private sector, alongside 11,584 MT procured by government entities. MCG anticipates that the city will produce about 1,100 tonnes per day of processed C&D materials, aiming for a target of 100 TPD for government agencies and 1,000 TPD for private entities.
MCG also intends to implement information, education, and awareness (IEC) campaigns to promote the awareness and use of processed C&D materials in municipal projects.
