Patna civic body collects over ₹31 crore in property tax

PATNA: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has collected over ₹31 crore in property tax from April 1 to June 16 this financial year, exceeding the ₹30 crore collected during the same period last year, even with a decline in the number of taxpayers.

According to official PMC data, 94,553 property owners paid their tax by June 16 this year, down from 98,338 in the previous fiscal year. Officials credit the increase in revenue to a revised assessment structure informed by road categories and property locations, as well as improved compliance.

Online payments continue to lead tax collection efforts, with 57,541 taxpayers utilizing digital methods, a slight rise from 57,285 in the same timeframe last year. The PMC portal remains the most popular platform, followed by the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS).

The civic body is providing a 5% discount on lump-sum payments for the entire financial year until June 30 to encourage on-time payments.

To enhance compliance, PMC has ramped up its outreach initiatives. Approximately 200,000 property owners receive SMS reminders daily, while the control room directly contacts taxpayers. Messages are also disseminated via door-to-door garbage collection vehicles across the city.
