Punjab to draft relief policy for unauthorized colonies: CM

CHANDIGARH: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Wednesday that the Punjab government is developing a policy aimed at assisting those who invested their savings in unauthorized colonies.

He noted that numerous residents across Punjab have been adversely affected by fraudulent developers who sold illegal properties, leaving them with legal and infrastructure challenges.

“Thousands of innocent families invested their life savings into these plots, only to find themselves unable to sell the land or secure registrations. They are also lacking basic amenities such as electricity, water, and sewer connections. These individuals are victims and deserve justice,” Mann stated.

“Fraudulent developers misled people with attractive brochures and empty promises. They sold land, pocketed the profits, and vanished, leaving ordinary citizens to face the fallout. During the sales process, they hid the fact that essential services like electricity and roads could not be established in these colonies,” he added.

Mann emphasized that while the government is committed to safeguarding innocent citizens, there will be no leniency for deceitful developers.

He assured that strict legal actions would be taken against such developers, while a comprehensive policy would provide relief to the affected residents.

“The forthcoming relief package will not be limited to cities like Ludhiana or Patiala; it will be uniformly applied across Punjab, ensuring justice for all affected citizens,” he affirmed.

Mann also announced plans for an upcoming meeting with senior officials to review community feedback and address pending legal and financial issues related to the unauthorized colonies.

“We will thoughtfully consider the concerns and suggestions from residents to formulate a practical, long-term solution,” he concluded.

The Chief Minister urged individuals to conduct thorough research before making any real estate investments.
