Seven Pune colonies slated for redevelopment, residents notified to vacate

PUNE: The civic authorities have initiated plans to redevelop municipal colonies that have deteriorated over the decades. Notices have been issued to residents of seven housing complexes across civic areas, requesting them to vacate their homes for the rebuilding process.

Officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) reported that approximately 1,900 flats are in unsafe conditions, emphasizing that residents must relocate. Priority will be given to 288 houses during the redevelopment initiative. Plans are currently in discussion, with the project potentially being executed by PMC itself or through a build, operate, and transfer model, possibly involving a private developer.

Residents affected by previous civic projects, who have lost land or properties, currently reside in PMC colonies located in Pandavnagar, Wakadewadi, Ghorpadi, along Ambil Odha, and in Sadashiv Peth. They will be offered accommodation in alternative civic properties in Hadapsar, Balewadi, and nearby areas.

“The civic administration has released a public notice urging residents to vacate the premises. Redevelopment will proceed according to municipal regulations,” stated Vishal Haribhakta, superintending engineer of PMC’s Bhavan Department.

According to civic guidelines, properties considered dilapidated are classified into three categories: C1, C2, and C3. The C1 category represents the most unsafe structures, while C2 includes those requiring significant repairs, and C3 indicates properties needing minor fixes. The seven municipal colonies fall under the C1 classification, with a structural audit recommending their demolition.

These properties are currently leased to occupants, and post-redevelopment, each tenant will be offered a 550 sqft property for rent.
