Haryana Okays Housing for 2,646 PMAY-Urban Beneficiaries

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has made significant strides towards offering affordable housing for urban poor and middle-class families, approving housing projects for 2,646 beneficiaries across 60 urban local bodies (ULBs) on Tuesday.

The decisions were taken during a session of the state-level sanctioning and monitoring committee under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0.

The meeting, led by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, highlighted the state’s progress in executing the central government’s housing initiative aimed at providing pucca houses to families in the economically weaker section (EWS), lower income group (LIG), and middle income group (MIG) in urban areas.

Mohammed Shayin, Commissioner and Secretary for Housing for All, shared that 169,483 applicants have registered their housing requests through the Government of India’s unified web portal, demonstrating strong public trust in the scheme.

Among these, 97,584 applications are registered under the beneficiary-led construction (BLC) segment, and 71,899 fall under the affordable housing in partnership (AHP) category. Shayin noted that of the BLC applications, 46,902 have been validated—17,465 accepted and 29,437 rejected after review. Additionally, 12,552 houses have been geo-tagged, a crucial step for releasing central funds to beneficiaries.

The Government of India has already approved projects for 17,430 beneficiaries during its first and fifth committee meetings held on March 20, 2025, and October 15, 2025, respectively, in support of constructing their pucca houses under PMAY-U 2.0.

The Centre has released ₹1,304.40 lakh as the first installment of the central share for 2,174 houses, bringing the goal of homeownership closer for many families.

During the recent meeting, the committee approved projects for 2,409 beneficiaries from 51 ULBs, alongside considerations for projects from an additional nine ULBs, raising the total number of beneficiaries approved in this round to 2,646 across 60 ULBs—indicative of the scheme’s expanding influence in the state’s urban regions, according to Shayin.

Under the BLC segment of the PMAY-U 2.0, eligible beneficiaries can receive financial aid of ₹2.50 lakh (with central assistance of ₹1.50 lakh and state support of ₹1 lakh) for building a multi-storey pucca house with a minimum area of 30 square meters and a maximum of 45 square meters.
