LUCKNOW: On Monday, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) arrested a key suspect in the multi-crore Shine City Infra Project Private Limited fraud case.
The suspect, Nekpal Singh, also known as Nikki, was detained by the EOW team in the Krishna Nagar area of Lucknow.
According to the EOW, Shine City Infra Project Private Limited allegedly defrauded investors across multiple districts in Uttar Pradesh by promoting low-cost residential plots and other attractive offers. The firm collected significant sums from the public without delivering the promised plots or refunding the investments.
After the alleged scheme came to light, the company’s directors and senior personnel closed their offices and went into hiding. Nekpal Singh, son of Baijnath Singh and a Gagan village resident under Mal police station jurisdiction in Lucknow, served as an associate at the company’s Lucknow office located in R Square, Vipul Khand.
In this capacity, he reportedly deceived investors, convincing them to invest by claiming their funds would double in a few months. An FIR related to the case was filed at Gomti Nagar police station in Lucknow in 2020, citing sections 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 467, 468, 471 (forgery), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. Due to the fraud’s magnitude, the investigation was transferred from the district to the EOW by government directive.
The police noted that Nekpal had been avoiding capture since the case was registered, even adopting a new identity to escape arrest. At the time of his capture, he was using the alias Harshit Singh and was employed by a real estate company named “Win-More.”
