HYDERABAD: On Wednesday, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) reclaimed a park site in Meerpet and sealed off two illegal five-storey buildings in Manikonda after receiving multiple complaints from local residents.
In the first incident, HYDRAA successfully protected 2,100 square yards of designated park land in Nandi Hills Colony, located within the Meerpet municipality of Balapur mandal, Rangareddy district. This land, which was intended for public use, had allegedly been encroached upon through “by-number” registrations, with residents suggesting that forged layout plans were used to validate the intrusion.
“Based on complaints received during HYDRAA Prajavani, we conducted inspections and verified property and layout records, which confirmed the encroachment. The entire park area was subsequently reclaimed for public utilization,” stated HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath.
Separately, HYDRAA took action against two illegal five-storey buildings built on land designated for public utilities in Neknampur village within the Manikonda municipality. These constructions were reportedly erected using fraudulent layout regularization scheme (LRS) documents, even as legal disputes concerning the land were ongoing. Ranganath noted that the land was part of an HMDA-approved layout in Venkateshwara Colony, originally reserved for public facilities. “Permissions were allegedly secured using forged LRS approvals, with one building constructed on land intended for a septic tank and park, after direct approvals from HMDA,” he added.
Despite attempts by the Manikonda municipality to annul the permissions, construction proceeded swiftly. Following complaints and a high court inquiry, HYDRAA sealed both buildings. On Wednesday, HYDRAA, in collaboration with GHMC and revenue officials, fenced off the sites and halted all ongoing construction.
