LUCKNOW: On Thursday, the state cabinet approved a proposal for an Aadhaar-based authentication system for property registration.
Officials stated this initiative will combat land scams associated with fake registrations. State minister Ravindra Jaiswal mentioned that the decision was made during a review meeting led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on August 28 of the previous year, with the new system set to launch in all sub-registrar offices starting February 1.
Through a notification dated August 2, 2024, the UP Online Document Registration Rules, 2024 will be implemented. This will enable the electronic verification of Aadhaar holders using e-KYC, biometric authentication, and e-signature for identity verification of executants, parties, and witnesses during deed registration.
This system aims to eliminate registration fraud and enhance transparency in the process.
The cabinet also sanctioned a six-month extension for a project aimed at digitizing old documents registered between 2002 and 2017 in sub-registrar offices. Originally approved until 2022 at a cost of Rs 95 crore, the project’s timeline and budget have now increased due to various delays, amounting to Rs 123.62 crore overall.
According to an official update, 99.11% of indexing and 98.37% of scanning are completed, with some work still needed in Etah, Varanasi, Moradabad, Mainpuri, Lucknow, Aligarh, Hathras, Agra, Saharanpur, and Prayagraj.
