LUCKNOW: On Tuesday, the UP housing department established a six-member committee, chaired by the housing secretary, to initiate the second phase of the compliance reduction and deregulation process. This committee will consist of vice-chairmen from Lucknow, Varanasi, and Ghaziabad, along with the state’s chief town planner and Awas Bandhu’s director.
After securing the top position in the first phase of the deregulation initiative nationwide, the UP government has tasked key departments with identifying bottlenecks causing delays in processing applications from individuals and private entities.
“We will assess all our services to enhance the working environment for all stakeholders. Our primary focus will be on fostering private projects that attract investments, while also carefully reviewing the overall framework to better serve residents, companies, investors, professionals such as architects, advocates, and accountants, as well as social organizations, educational institutions, and collaborative government bodies involved in the process. Our goal is to expedite the application disposal time,” stated an official.
P Guruprasad, the principal secretary of the housing department, noted that the committee has been given one month to draft an outline and initial proposal, after which further steps will be considered.
A private real estate developer commented, “Instead of inspecting a site for a major project in a piecemeal manner, it would be more efficient to assemble a dedicated team of officials from various granting authorities to conduct a simultaneous joint inspection. This would allow for any objections to be raised by experts within 48-72 hours. After that, it would be the responsibility of the private developer to furnish the required documents or permissions. Currently, obtaining clearances from various departments can be excessively time-consuming.”
