Gurugram Buyers Protest Flat Delays, Seek Govt Help

GURUGRAM: Homebuyers are calling on authorities to ensure timely delivery of homes after experiencing extensive construction delays in a project located in Sector 37C.

Residents report waiting for possession for several years despite having made full payments.

According to representatives of the homebuyers, who staged a protest on Sunday, sales for the Aashiyara project commenced in 2018 under the state’s affordable housing policy. Buyers assert that they paid the full price for their flats over three years ago, yet construction remains incomplete, and work at the site has reportedly stalled for the past year.

Officials from the town and country planning department have confirmed receipt of numerous complaints regarding the project’s non-completion. Internal communications suggest that inspections following complaints found the construction to still be unfinished. This issue has been escalated to higher authorities for further action.

Documents indicate that the project was approved under the Affordable Group Housing Policy, and the developer applied for an occupation certificate in 2024. However, inspection reports identified unfinished work across several towers, with minimal labor presence at the site at the time of inspection. Authorities have suggested that buyers contact the real estate regulator for resolution of their possession-related grievances.

Goutam Kumar Maiti, president of the buyer’s association, expressed frustration over the repeated changes in completion timelines and promises made during meetings, which have not resulted in any visible progress. Many residents are facing financial difficulties as they continue to pay home loans alongside rent.

The buyers’ association has reached out to various authorities, including the Department of Town and Country Planning and the real estate regulator, requesting enforcement action and a clear timeline for project completion. They are advocating for stricter oversight of the project and the swift resumption of construction.

Officials stated that the issue is under review and that further steps will be taken as per relevant regulations. In the meantime, homebuyers remain hopeful that regulatory intervention will provide much-needed relief to the many middle-income families awaiting their homes.
